2009 United Kingdom E. coli outbreak

The 2009 E. coli outbreak in the United Kingdom was an outbreak of E. coli which was discovered in a farm in Surrey. On 12 September 2009 the HPA ordered Godstone Farm as 36 people had been suffering from a gastrointestinal illness which have occurred following visits to the animal farm.
By the 25 September 2009, 4 farms had closed because of cases linked to Godstone Farm with 82 cases of the bacteria, this includes nine children who were hospitalised. Five children treated in one of the London hospitals were described as being in a stable condition - as were all those being treated in other hospitals. None were described as seriously ill.
